Wayne has been involved in many aspects of Architecture and Construction since 1978, beginning with hands-on training as a carpenter apprentice, a framer, mason and a cabinet maker, an Architectural Technologist and an Architect.
The A studio-DeAngelis Architecture was founded in 1987 through the practice of architecture, interior design, and furniture design. Wayne has worked as a consultant to the well known and established Japanese architectural firm, Matsuda Hirata Sakamoto Architects, Planners and Engineers (MHS) as well as Yasuo Yoshida Architect in Osaka Japan and AJ Diamond and Partners in Toronto.
As a Designer for MHS, Wayne led the Design for a competition for the Kansai International Airport Hotel (KIAH), a 400-suite hotel, commercial and office project located at the Kansai Airport in Osaka. At the same time, he designed the extension to the Japanese Mint Museum also in Osaka. Both designs were successfully chosen and have since been completed. He has been the Project Architect on Art galleries, museums and Culture centres in Japan, a design team member of the Mountain View Civic Center in California, USA as well as a large scale Multifamily housing projects in Vancouver, Canada and Japan.
As a Volunteer, Wayne has served as the RAIC (Royal Architectural Institute of Canada) Regional Director of BC and Yukon as well as President of the RAIC. He has served on the Board of the CaGBC, Chaired the Vancouver Heritage Commission, Chair of the Vancouver Heritage Interiors Commission, Chair of AIBC Continuing Education System as well as founding the Metro Vancouver RAIC chapter. He has also created and managed Professional programs for Architects and Designers to study the latest Sustainable Building Technology in Italy.
His educational accomplishments include a Diploma in Architectural Technology, Certification in Professional Specification Writing, Certification in Construction Law, Project Management Certificate, a visiting critic at Carleton University School of Architecture, the Osaka Institute of Technology Architectural Department, mentor, critic and advisor with UBC SALA and BCIT ARC SCI Departments, and academic positions at Vanier College, Royal Oak College and BCIT.
He has helped create partnerships between the University of Ferrara School of Architecture in Italy with BCIT as well as the RAIC.
Presently, Wayne is the principal of DeAngelis Architecture in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
